Marching Along

Posted on April 7, 2026April 7, 2026 by jmarteran

Sometimes I don’t really know what to say. Or where to start. Or how to start, even.

The world is spinning and burning and every day is another in which we are somehow blessed to be alive and writhing through this historic time.

I hope I don’t need to update anyone on global or local news. If you’re looking for that, I recommend Heather Cox Richardson. She is an incredible historian who has begun to share daily updates and reports accompanied by her vast knowledge of this country’s history and the context in which we exist at this moment.

These days it feels impossible to go even a second without being reminded of our global horrors. I can feel the quality control whittling away in every element of our world. It doesn’t take a political spectator to notice that you can no longer trust a product to be what it says or to taste the difference in the tomatoes at the grocery store. We can all smell the smoke in the air from the fires burning across the nation.

Most days, I feel a combination of hopeless, helpless, and so so lucky to be in a position like mine. That is, one where I have secure housing, food in the fridge, and an incredible community network to keep me going. Of course, job instability, lack of health care, and the erosion of trans rights constantly loom over me. But overall, I am extremely privileged and thankful for all that keeps me healthy and whole.

This past month I have been relatively MIA from everything and everyone. My dog, Pippy, had a little surgery and we spent a good amount of time resting indoors, avoiding the remaining winter weather and trying not to feel stir crazy.

I am happy to report she has recovered perfectly and is a healthy and happy little dog. She did have a couple of teeth removed and they let me keep them, which was both neat and disgusting. I can now add “knows how to clean bones” to my ever growing resume. What will I do with these little teeth? I’m not sure. But it will be odd and spectacular. I can promise you that.

I don’t have many other updates to share, but I do hope to spend some time catching up on everyone’s lives in the coming weeks. As the air begins to warm, my craving for outdoor social time grow stronger! So here is a little peek into my April calendar for anyone looking to spend some time together 🙂

I hope you’ll join me in a creative project, political movement, or an act of resistance in April. If not, I’ll catch ya next time!

Thanks for checking in. Love you all <3
